WARD's
from Grimsby to Peterborough, Canada
Hi, I'm
researching my family history and the Ward surname features.
My Grandmother was
born Nellie Ward in Grimsby 1924
Her parents
William Nicholson and Florence Ward.
William was born
in 1882, I believe in Caistor.
William lost both
parents; his father George Ward died in January 1911 and his mother
Charlotte Nicholson died in March 1910.
The family resided
in Grimsby.
Elder
sister Ada, the only child of John Henry Ward and
Charlotte Nicholson, looked after the children, George Ward - Henrietta
or ‘Hetty’, George Jr, William, Robert, John, Tom & Charles.
We believe John & George may have been brothers or some
other relation - John likely died and Charlotte re-married to George is
the most likely scenario.
At some point in time, Tom was sent to Canada - possibly
as a 'Home Child'.
Charlie emigrated to Canada in 1929. He settled in
Peterborough where he raised a family with Edith who was also from
England, South Shields maybe.
Thanks, Danielle

WARD's from
Swinton, Rotherham
I'm
desperately trying to find out about the Ward family in Swinton who
set up Ward and Sons (Swinton) Ltd bottling plant.
I know it
was started by William Ward in 1874 but I can't find him in any census
records.
Any help
would be very gratefully received.
I'm interested
as my grandfather, Joseph Firth (1913-2005), managed the plant in its
later days and his mother was one of the Ward family.
It's family
legend that the business was passed on to William Ward's nephew rather
than his daughter
(I believe
he had no sons) and therefore didn't come down my line of the family! I
have lots of old photographs of the works and the staff there if anyone
is interested.
Thank you,

WARD's from
Rotherham
I am
trying to find information about my GGF, William Henry WARD.
William was born in Masbrough, Rotherham, circa 1837-1839.
His
wife Sarah Elizabeth HARRISON was born in Tipton, Staffs, 1835,
daughter of Edward Harrison who was born 1841 in Tipton, Staffs
and was found in the 1861 census living at Henley Grove,
Kimberworth, Sarah Elizabeth being 26 years old, with her
brothers & sisters Emma, Samuel, Theodore, Edward, Benjamin,
Thomas & Eliza.
Due
to my elusive GGF, I employed the services of a company to help
find him.
The
result being that he could not be found on the 1861 census.
William
and Sarah Elizabeth were found on the following census.
1891
census at 25 Midland Road, Kimberworth.
1881
census at 17 Wortley Road, Kimberworth.
1871
census at 9 New Zealand Yard, Bridgegate.
The
only William Ward found on the 1861 census, at the right age of
22, is with his wife Hannah, also 22 who is listed as born in
Dronfield
This is
ref 3503/49B living at Oil Mill Fold.
I am
hoping this is my GGF who may have married again.
Does
anyone know this William and Hannah, and is there a possible
link????????
I think
Hannah's maiden name may be Wigley.
